How Testosterone Replacement Therapy Works

It’s normal to wonder what testosterone replacement is like before you even schedule a consultation. You may want to know what to expect so you can determine if it’s a possibility for you. We provide a thorough evaluation first, ensuring it’s safe, effective, and tailored to meet your exact needs. Overall, the process is relatively straightforward for you as our client, although it is a multi-step process..

01.

Step one

Step one

Know if you could have a hormonal imbalance by assessing yourself for symptoms. If you have one or more symptoms or would like to prevent them from occurring, reach out to us for a consultation.

02.

step two

step two

The next step in the process is to attend your visit, allowing us to gain a better understanding of your unique situation. We’ll ask you questions about how you’ve been feeling and what symptoms you’re experiencing. Besides identifying the symptoms, we’ll also want to know how often they occur and how severe they are.

03.

step three

step three

After establishing that a hormonal imbalance could be at play, our doctor will order bloodwork to get a true evaluation of your testosterone levels, both free and bound. Our practitioner will carefully review your results and use them to create a personalized plan specifically for you.

04.

step four

step four

During this stage, you will receive your treatment and be on your way to feeling better, more refreshed, and closer to being whole again. Before determining the right dosage and frequency, we’ll ask you about what you desire in a treatment in terms of convenience.

Are you available to come to our office? Or would you rather take your treatment home and deal with it on your own? Are you looking for relief within the next week or so, or are you willing to wait a little longer?

Once we have everything figured out, you’re cleared to start treatment.

05.

step five

step five

You can finally begin treatment. The process works differently depending on the variety you choose. For injections or pellets, our practitioner will administer them during a visit to our office.

Pellets require a small incision, followed by the placement of grain-sized pellets, and then stitches, all of which are completed under local anesthesia. The pellets will break down in the body over time, easing your symptoms.

With injections, you receive the testosterone therapy for men delivered by our practitioner. For either of these treatments, you must return to our office for subsequent visits to have the treatment repeated and maintain the results.

If you receive testosterone replacement as a cream, gel, pill, or other similar form, our practitioner will send the treatment home with you along with instructions.

06.

step six

step six

The final step is waiting for the results to occur. Generally, you’ll start to feel the effects of injections within one to two weeks, with full results taking three to six months.

On the other hand, other forms, such as pellets and creams, begin to take effect two to four weeks after starting the treatment, with full results typically achieved within three to six months.

You’ll be scheduled for follow-up visits, during which we will discuss how you’re feeling and how well the treatment is working. If you’re not having adequate results, we may need to alter your treatment as necessary.

Signs & Symptoms

We understand that some men may not immediately embrace the fact that they’re losing testosterone. And, sometimes, it’s just that they’re unaware of what their symptoms mean because they could easily be from the aging process or just being run down from life. These are the symptoms that you’ll want to look out for, though, especially if you have more than one:

Fatigue

Fatigue, the feeling of being tired despite getting enough sleep, is a commonly overlooked symptom, as it can signify many other underlying issues. However, testosterone plays a vital role in your energy levels, and when it starts to decline, you may notice the effects.

Decreased Libido

Feeling ready for sexual relations frequently, nearly anytime, is thought of as a male trait. Testosterone is partially responsible for that thirst for intimacy. You may not crave it as regularly when your level is low.

Erectile Dysfunction

While many other factors could contribute to you having erectile dysfunction, low testosterone can be one cause. Testosterone fuels your libido and arousal. Not to mention, it also helps increase nitric oxide production, which aids in improving blood flow.

Loss of Drive for Life

You might notice that you’ve just not been feeling right lately. For instance, you may not want to go out and seize the day, and you may no longer set goals and strive toward them. Your motivation to do even normal daily activities could be diminishing.

Mood Changes

Testosterone interacts with neurotransmitters that affect mood as well as brain structures. As a result, when it decreases, you might have mood swings. Irritability, anxiety, and depression are possible.

Muscle Loss

Think back to when you first began developing muscles. It was around puberty. Throughout your life, this hormone has influenced your strength, muscle mass, and recovery. If you’re noticing you have less muscle and you can’t rebuild with exercise, it could be that your testosterone is low.

Although our practitioner can’t determine for certain how you’ll respond to hormone therapy since results vary, it’s safe to say that many people experience relief of their hormone deficiency with treatment. Keep in mind that the dosage and route of administration play a role.

If you are fortunate enough to see effects from treatment, which most do, you might start to feel more like yourself. You may have more energy and won’t feel fatigued as frequently or as intensely.

Any erratic mood changes tend to ease up once your hormone levels rise. When it’s time for bed, you might fall asleep faster and remain that way without waking up often or too early. Your memory and concentration could improve.

Finding relief from hormonal depletion as you age is as simple as contacting Hydrology, serving Coral Gables and the entire Miami, FL metropolis. We can determine if that’s the problem and provide you with a testosterone replacement therapy to boost your levels within normal range, which will, in turn, lessen your symptoms, and make you feel more like the man you want to be.

Feel more virile, energized, and ready to take on the challenges life has in store with testosterone replacement therapy either before or after a hormone decrease happens. Book your consultation by calling Hydrology in Miami, FL, at (305) 946-1038.

FAQs

Some men experience side effects from it, but they’re often temporary and mild. Especially in men with certain pre-existing conditions, it can elevate the risk of cardiovascular issues, such as stroke and heart attack.

Though you can receive treatment for preventative purposes for your symptoms, if you’re looking for it as a treatment, we usually look to see that you have one or more signs and will verify it’s the cause using a blood test.

For men who have symptoms of decreasing hormone levels, TRT is worth it. It can help them feel more energized and/or sexually aroused and improve their overall quality of life.

Some signs that your testosterone might be low include the following: decreased libido, less energy, a diminishing zest for life, erectile dysfunction, less muscle mass, and loss of drive for life.

There isn’t a best age for TRT. It all depends on when you desire to start it. That may mean before you have symptoms or not until they begin. Broadly speaking, though, between the ages of 40 and 50 is common, but some men might not need TRT until after 50.
